A new competition, open to all Bristol League players regardless of strength, is being introduced. The player who scores most League points for his or her club by April 30 each season will be awarded the Alan Ashby Memorial Salver. Any tie will be broken by determining the player who has played least games.
This competition will appeal to players of all levels, as anyone can win it, regardless of which division they play in. For example, last season, the second highest scorers were Charles Cobb (University A, 17 games), graded 210, and Daniel Hilder (Clevedon C, 21 games), graded 97, who both scored 15½ points. But the clear winner would have been John Cullum (Hanham A), graded 143, who scored 16½ points from an incredible 24 games!
The new trophy is named after Alan Ashby, one of Bristol's leading players who died tragically in 1993. The salver has been purchased with money from the Alan Ashby Memorial Fund.
Updates on the leading scorers will appear on the Web site throughout the season.
