Icy conditions and the threat of snow reduced the numbers, but there were still 20 hardy souls who made it to Grendel for the 10' tournament. The strong players who dominated the previous tournament at the beginning of the month were missing, so the 150s and 160s were thinking they might win something for a change.
Ian Ponter and Alistair Gilbert, both in their element at this speed, cruised through to joint first. They drew with each other in the fourth round and won the rest.
The event was held at the Bristol Sports and Social Club. It was a Bristol Grand Prix event, counting as two multiples.
The next event at Grendel will be the Grendel Fischerandom tournament on Monday 7th February 2000.
