Chris Baker continued his string of wins in local events by strolling to victory
in the Bristol League Rapidplay. He beat the two biggest threats, David Moskovic
and Roy Phillips, in rounds 4 and 5, and then took a draw in the last round against
Simon Buckley to ensure outright first place.
Baker started the event needing just 3½ points to win this year's Bristol Grand Prix, so he easily passed that target. The Grand Prix Challengers and Junior sections are still undecided and await the final event of this season's Grand Prix, the Grendel 10-minute tournament on Thursday April 30th.
The Rapidplay Major (under-150) was won impressively by Paul Spiller of Downend. The Minor (under-100) was a closely-fought contest with a number of young players in contention. Eventually it was two juniors, Michael Green (Downend) and Sam Buckley (Keynsham) who were victorious.
