West Of England Championships Apr
1998 |
Report |
1st Chris Beaumont
Standings |
Beaumont chalks up victory in West of
England
Chris Beaumont (Hanham) is
the new West of England Champion, after a nailbiting finish at the
WECU Congress in Weymouth this Easter. It was an all-Bristol
encounter in the final round with thirteen year old Simon Buckley (Keynsham)
needing to win against Chris to secure first place for himself. When
Simon got a won endgame, it looked like he had got a place in the
record books as the youngest ever winner. But Simon blundered, and
Chris used his extra 32 years of experience to secure the draw,
finishing outright first.
Beaumont also
gets the qualifying place for the British Championship in Torquay
this summer, where he will hope to secure his final IM norm
