The Open section was won by third seed Carl Bicknell, a
local player, with an impressive 5/5 and qualifies for the British
Championship place.
But
the surprise of the Open was Roger Pearce (ECF155) who was only one
point away from being eligible to play in the Major. He started with
3/3!!- beating the top 2 seeds along the way.
Roger started his campaign with a Smith-Morra Gambit on the friday night
and won in convincing style and has annotated the game here

Santandar in northern Spain. He combined an English holiday around his
chess weekend in Bristol
