Bristol Winter Congress 20-22nd Feb 2015 With an Entry list of 82 and prize money of £1300 the Bristol Winter Congress was an astounding success with players from all over the country arriving to the event at Bristol Garmmar School. Unfortunately IM Chris Beaumont arrived on friday evening at the wrong venue and ended up withdrawing, apparently having trekked all the way up to the town house in Whiteladies Road ( Clifton's venue ) and then decided to head down to the holiday inn in the centre! The Open Section for the first time was Fide rated and had a british championship qualifying place up for grabs, and was won by Patryk krzyzanowski ( South Bristol Chess Club) who took a bye in Rd 1 and then preceded to win all his games bar one a bishops of opposite colour in Rd 4. The Major Section was won by Steve Williams ( Cwmbran ) a regular competitor who travels and enters many major events. The Minor Section was won by Peter Dimond ( Bath Chess Club ) Many thanks go to the organisers of the event - Geoff Gammon who was chief arbiter at a fide event for the first time, and Alan Papier who has worked hard to enable the event to take place, also the catering duo "Rosie of Hereford" who provided some excellent snacks and beverages, including home made cakes which took my fancy! and Horfield Chess club for the supply of their clocks Dave Tipper All 51 Games games are available here - Open Section Games cbv pgn
