On Sunday Sept 8th  Bristol Grammar School once again held one of the 8 regional qualifiers for this year’s UK Open Blitz Championship

There were 64 entrants in all, including GM’s Matthew Turner and Keith Arkell. 

We had 6 of our Bristol juniors playing, and as usual they all completed well (chess results link).  Particular standouts were Oli’s draw against I.M James Cobb, whilst Chirag had an excellent win against F.M Lewis Martin.

Oli also managed to snaffle the under 1750 rating prize

Toby and Max came up against each other in round three and fought out a well contested draw. They also had plenty of other good results, including Toby’s impressive win against Mike Harris, Elo rating 1924. 

Fedor meanwhile, had a good win against Fanella Headlong, nearly 100 points higher than him, and in round one had a standout draw with Colin Purdon Elo 2025.

Kandara also had a good win against Ernie Fields rated 60 higher than her
